On March 13, 2024, our club suffered a terrible loss. One of our members Francis MAGUIRE, passed away. He has been a member since 2017. Frank was a very quiet man and he will certainly be missed. "Happy Trails, Frank." May you rest in peace.
f Foxboro, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 13, 2024, at the age of 88. Frank was born in Boston, on September 23, 1935. He was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Commerce High School in Boston.
Frank was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Reissfelder), of Dedham. The two married on June 5, 1955, in St. Mary's Church, Dedham. Together, they shared 68 loving years of marriage.
He was the devoted father of Marianne Cherico and her late husband, Jimmy, of Foxboro, Francis T. (Rusty) Maguire, III and his wife, Terry, of Mansfield, Steven R. and his wife, Cheryl, of Assonet, and Mark D. and his partner, Dottie, of Foxboro. Frank was the loving, doting "Grampy" to eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Joseph Maguire of Dunellen, NJ and Mary Rita Brunton, of Franklin.
For more than five decades, Frank worked at The Boston Globe newspaper. A proud employee of the Mailers Local 1, he served for many years as the union's Recording Secretary. Especially active in his union, Frank fought for better working conditions and pay on behalf of the membership. Additionally, to the delight of the employees' children, Frank dressed up as the Globe Santa; a role he gladly assumed with his trademark good humor, warmth and gift for gab. Frank worked at other area newspapers as well, to include the Boston Herald, The Daily Item (Lynn), The Salem News, The Jewish Advocate (Boston) and The Transcript Newspapers, based in Dedham. He loved telling stories, sharing laughs with his family and many friends, playing cribbage, traveling to Italy and watching old movies with his beloved wife.
We are asking DRMC members to meet at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in the parking lot of the Endicott Estate and carpool to St. Mary's Church, 58 Carpenter Street, in Foxboro and visit as a group.
